From: Chuck Sedlacko (chaz@lexis-nexis.com) Subject: RSG-Ohio 1997 Newsgroups: rec.sport.golf Date: 1997/09/22 Thanks to everyone for coming out to Dayton for RSG Ohio '97. I certainly had a great time, and I hope everyone else did as well. Congratulations to the new RSG Ohio champions Sean Beachy * (Sorry Jim, I have to take away your *) and to the All World team for just narrowly defending the RSG Ohio Cup by a slim 7-1 margin (OK, I don't have the exact totals, but it wasn't pretty for the Ohio team). * 1997 RSG Ohio Champion Again, thanks to Taylor Made for donating the driver (please mention them if you post any trip reports to rsg this week), and to Mr. Koenig for donating a dozen golf balls and more importantly, just for flying all the way from Texas to play golf with us. Here's my top 10 highlights for the weekend.... 10) Guy Cooper's hole in one at hole #17 Heatherwoode on Friday with a knockdown 6 iron!!!! Congratulations Guy!!! 9) Guy Cooper's buying the beer for his hole in one on Friday night!!! Congratulations Guy!!! 8) Fred Stluka taking offense to the ranger at Shaker Run, when the ranger asked him, "Is this your lunch? Somebody told me this was the walker's lunch and I'm supposed to give this you?" Fred thought the ranger was pointing to a banana peel in the cart and the ranger was accusing him of littering, when in reality he was talking about a slightly cold Burger King combo meal that Coops had the ranger run out to Thor due to his lack of lunch time between rounds Saturday. 7) Pete Hope knocking one inside 2 feet on #5 at Shaker Run into a heavy wind -- probably the most intimidating par #3 I've ever played. Nice shot Pete! 6) The high school cheerleaders of Carlisle High School Friday night, who were nice enough to give Coops a special "Hole in one" cheer at Bullwinkles. Afterwards Chuck "I have no scruples" reaches a new low point in his social life by flirting with the high school girls, but as usual, promptly strikes out with them. 5) Mr. Koenig demonstrating his highly competitive spirit by cleverly and intentionally shouting out wrong answers to the Damon's Big screen trivia game Saturday night, with the purpose of hopefully throwing off the competition sitting next to us into making an incorrect choice. Of course, in this instance the competition was 3 9-year old girls, but as Mr. Koenig suggests, "Never underestimate the competition!" This strategy worked to perfection and allowed RSG Ohio to crush the 9 year old girls and led us to a close second place right behind "Big Al" (Then again, maybe those 9-year olds were "Big Al" :-)) 4) Guy's "hole in one ovation" from the entire wait staff at Damon's Saturday night! 3) I parred #18 at Shaker Run in front of a large audience! (My golf highlights, as those who played with me will attest, were few and far between, so I had to stretch hard for something I did worthwhile to include in this list!). But just playing Shaker Run is a tremendous highlight in my book and 18 is one of the greatest finishing holes I've ever played. Hopefully everyone enjoyed paying a few extra dollars for this premium course. 2) Guy's "hole in one dance" at Diamonds Friday night!!! A special thanks to Asia and the waitress at Diamonds, both of whom I'm sure will have the opportunity to reject me many times in the near future! :-) And my #1 Highlight for RSG Ohio '97 is .... 1) Thor demonstrating, actually proving, to me without any doubt whatsoever, that this thing with the weather is not just some mere fluky, co-inidence. Saturday, the *experts* were totally convinced that it would rain all day and had been predicting it all week, but they were obviously unaware of the "Thor affect", as Thor pushed the rain through quickly Friday night, allowing us to get 36 holes holes in, often under sunny skies. At one point Saturday a large rain cloud tried to sneak in from the west, but Thor again rose to the challenge and beat the cloud away before Mr. Koenig could open his umbrella. He really does control the weather!!!
