From: Golfer (golfer@bessel.nando.net) Subject: Re: Anybody survive Greensboro? Newsgroups: rec.sport.golf Date: 1996/03/12 Let's see, highs of 35 with North winds of 15-20 mph (especially fun on the 5 holes along the lake where the wind whistled across it lowering the temperature by 10 degrees :> But, Dave "The Weather is Beautiful" Tutelman was the hit of the day... Scores ranged from the sandbagger Jim Preston at 90 (Just kidding Jim) to someone with a 187... I hope someone has it all down... The next day, myself, Dave T., Steven P., and Coops trucked over to the beautiful Mill Creek Course only to find it closed. We hoofed it over to Stoney Creek in Sedalia, NC (just outside Greensboro), where Dave T. showed great courage in his play, Coops did a great imitation of Scott Simpson on the 18 th hole we played (the course's 9th), I was caught with 16 clubs in my bag, and Steve P. rolled down the hill after he found out my second wife looked like a Golf Ball. My current spouse got her VERY FIRST BIRDIE on Saturday. Steve pelted the port-a-potty with golf balls while I was in it... Oh, yeah, in the spirit of RSG, both days had rounds approaching 6 hours in length... AND WE WERE THE ONLY ONES PLAYING!!!! I hope Mike Stanton-Rich posts everything here about the Saturday. Both courses were excellent except for the shaggy greens at Bryan Park... Oh, yeah, we finished Sunday night at a great little eatery called Brightwood in Whitset, NC (next town over from Sedalia). They grow their own beef and chicken and the menu has exactly 4 entrees. Great onion rings and banana pudding. We left them shaking their heads. To top it off, the karma of crossover of lifes was interesting, as 3 of the 4 of us had vested interests in the company I left in October... LETS DO IT AGAIN REAL SOON!!!!!! John... ==================================== Editor's note (DaveT): John mentions two kind of cryptic things that turn out to involve my son Jeff. (1) "Dave T. showed great courage in his play." I had related a story where Jeff and I were watching golf on TV. Some announcer had remarked, after a player near the lead had gotten away with a risky shot, that the golfer was "playing with great courage." Jeff said to me, "Great courage? They're just playing golf!" Sorta' puts things in perspective. (2) "The karma of crossover of lifes was interesting, as 3 of the 4 of us had vested interests in the company I left in October." I also mentioned this in my writeup. Neither of us said what that interest was, nor the company. It's actually pretty interesting, so I'm finally going to make it public. The company John had left was Medic Computer Systems, a software company that makes medical practice management systems. They are HQ'd in Raleigh, NC, and have a smaller development group in NJ. Coops' interest in the company is that many of his clients are medical practices, so he has to keep up with the latest in this type of software. In fact, he had just attended a seminar, where one of the presenters was Medic Computer Systems. When John left, he had asked what they were going to do for networking expertise, since he was the only one in the company familiar with UNIX networking. He was told they would transfer responsibility to a developer in NJ. When he told me that, I understood why Jeff suddenly had to become a UNIX networking expert at his job. :-) Karma indeed!
