My first ever rsg event, having lurked on the newsgroup for less than a year. A nine hour drive to play golf with people I had never met. My wife thought I was nuts. I probably hadn't ever broken 100 at that point, or if I had, it was a fairly recent happening. The first ever rsg'er I ever saw? Brent Hutto. He was sitting inside the door to the pro shop, along with his clubs, wearing a Greg Norman style hat. The first rsg'er I ever spoke to? Dunno, either Dave T or Coops, they were both standing at the counter. I played in their foursome, along with a guy name Steve something, Criscione or something like that. The round was a disaster. Started out with a 5 wood into the fairway, but my approach was 1/2 club short, hitting the bank in front of the green and rolling back into a pond. I think I finished with a 134 or so. On one hole I shanked my lob wedge from the front, to the side, to the back of the green. Seventy some on the front, just like the joke. Improved to a sixty some on the back. I think I even parred one hole. I've got the scorecard downstairs. The course, Bryan Park, had several lake holes. It was so windy that waves were splahing up onto the reeds on the shore and encasing them in ice. Just nasty. To cap it off, after I putted out on 18, I was standing there lost in my own thoughts of the most miserable round of my life when I realized my shadow was squarely in the middle of Dave T's line. I also realized that he was about to pull the trigger on that six footer and that it was too late to move. I stood as still as I could and tried not to move. To my relief, he drained the putt and then dismissed my profuse apologies with "Don't worry, it gave me a chance to practice what I read in Rotella's book." What a guy. I'm going to play that course again, it owes me. Big time. Mark Georg
